Maddie
lives in a world where everything is done on the computer. Whether it’s to go
to school or on a date, people don’t venture out of their home. There’s really
no need. For the most part, Maddie’s okay with the solitary, digital life—until
she meets Justin. Justin likes being with people. He enjoys the physical
closeness of face-to-face interactions. People aren’t meant to be alone, he
tells her.
Suddenly,
Maddie feels something awakening inside her—a feeling that maybe there is a
different, better way to live. But with society and her parents telling her
otherwise, Maddie is going to have to learn to stand up for herself if she
wants to change the path her life is taking.
In
this not-so-brave new world, two young people struggle to carve out their own
space.
My Review
When I first read
the summary for this book I was ecstatic to read it because since I love
technology I really wanted to go into a world where everything was based off of
that. Once I began reading I started realizing it was going in a different
direction than what I expected. Don’t get me wrong though, the idea was there,
the story was quite interesting, there was just things missing in my opinion.
The characters were great and it was good imagination I will give it that. I’ll
be honest and say that it might be a great book for someone other than me, in
which case I encourage anyone to give it a try.
Aw I'm sorry this book wasn't what you expected! I bought it at a Borders close out sale so I have it on my shelf. I love that's it's about technology too, but I might wait a pick to pick it up since you didn't completely love it. Thanks for the honest review Steph! :)
ReplyDeleteI was looking thorough your blog and noticed you lived in las vegas like me :)

DeleteInitially, I thought this book sounded pretty great too, but others like you, have said it was def. different than expected. I'm still hoping to give it a try sometime, though!
