the summary for this book I was ecstatic to read it because since I love
technology I really wanted to go into a world where everything was based off of
that. Once I began reading I started realizing it was going in a different
direction than what I expected. Don’t get me wrong though, the idea was there,
the story was quite interesting, there was just things missing in my opinion.
The characters were great and it was good imagination I will give it that. I’ll
be honest and say that it might be a great book for someone other than me, in
which case I encourage anyone to give it a try.
crazysteph12http://www.blogger.com/profile/09777459489499211272noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-267475151644369723.post-34165047365435442462011-11-12T13:00:00.000-08:002011-11-12T13:00:03.471-08:00Divergent (Divergent #1) by Veronica Roth

this to The Hunger Game and I can see
why. They are very different books but it gives you that same feeling of the
characters having no other choice but to live by what society has planned for
you. You can say, “well it sounds like any other dystopian story” but it’s a
little more than that. Oh and also that “I can’t stop reading it” feeling. By
the way, if you have not read The Hunger
Games yet you have not lived. Back to Divergent,
it had great characters and good twists. The romance was not overworked
like most YA books. There was plenty of action. It was also perfectly paced
which is something you have to appreciate because it is one thing not every

When I first read
what this book was about I was eager to read it until I actually got to reading
it then I had a lot of thoughts on it, some not so great. I will start of about
how it made me feel… thirsty, really thirsty. Stracher made it possible for me
to crave water, the way he explained the shortage of water and the way the
characters were described, lips chapped and at the point of dehydration, I have
to say it was pretty intense, made me think about real life and how we might
not be using water properly. That was probably the good part of the book, how
the author can make you feel a certain way and so extremely. Now I want to talk
about the so-so portion of the book. There was so much action, if you are into
action filled book, this might be for you. In my opinion there was way too much
action, so much that it was really improbable, which was disappointing because
the topic of the lack of water was so realistic it was even easy to connect
then you get all this action that you get in corny movies in which you think to
yourself, “how does that happen? Is that even possible? No one can have that
much luck. If it was real life they would have already been dead.” A lot of
action in which I waited for something important to happen but nothing ever did,
it just went from action to more action and so on. This book was not exactly
made for me but it was not so bad.

I recommend this
book to anyone into action filled stories and into the dystopian genre.

no turning back. This debut thriller--the first in a trilogy from the late
Stieg Larsson--is a serious page-turner rivaling the best of Charlie Huston and
Michael Connelly. Mikael Blomkvist, a once-respected financial journalist,
watches his professional life rapidly crumble around him. Prospects appear
bleak until an unexpected (and unsettling) offer to resurrect his name is
extended by an old-school titan of Swedish industry. The catch--and there's
always a catch--is that Blomkvist must first spend a year researching a
mysterious disappearance that has remained unsolved for nearly four decades.
With few other options, he accepts and enlists the help of investigator Lisbeth
Salander, a misunderstood genius with a cache of authority issues. Little is as
it seems in Larsson's novel, but there is at least one constant: you really
don't want to mess with the girl with the dragon tattoo.

all at once, I did pause for a month or two. Great plot and characters. It was
suspenseful and interesting. I am not a big fan of Mystery Crime novels because
they seem a little boring to me but this book was different maybe because it is
easier to connect to these characters than with other ones in other Mystery
Crime books, at least in my opinion. Lisbeth Salander is such a fascinating
character it is hard not to like her. Once you read this book you will be
shocked at the types of problems she is in and you won’t help but feel bad for
her. Larsson isn’t afraid to be explicit; there will be a couple of things that

book. By strange I mean this book goes nowhere but goes everywhere at the same
time. Confusing, I know. The setting of this story pretty much stays the same
throughout the whole book, you don’t go on an adventure like most in most books
but this story proves that you don’t need to! From the beginning this book captures
the reader’s attention, from there on you become part of the story. I seriously
felt I was there with the characters in that house, even felt imprisoned. I
felt seriously connected with this book.

dislike his character he annoys me and even grosses me out I have no idea why.
I like the rest of the characters, each one is very unique, my favorite is
Jenna, and even Linden’s father is an interesting character. This book was
different, besides the love triangle, there is no book like it, the story was
morbid at times, I just loved it.

clever. I know this review was way too short but I hope you enjoy this book a

Okay so this book
is based off the screenplay written by David Johnson. The real ending to the
book was left out so that people would go and watch the movie, which was
something a lot of people didn’t think fair but I really didn’t have a problem
with it, the bonus chapter was up online (Legally) for people to go read and I
think that was a great marketing strategy in their part because the movie was
the first idea since the beginning so it seemed fair to me.

Obviously the whole thing is based on the fairy
tale we all know except with a dark twists which is what got this book so much
attention. Personally I believe this book was a little odd but I’m not sure if
it was a good odd or bad odd, mixed feelings here, I liked it for the most part
but it was missing something. I would have rated this book maybe half a star
less if it didn’t have such a good twist at the end. It’s hard to find books
with twists like this one and I love it when I finally find one. By the way,
yes the good part is in the bonus chapter that is found online so I guess if
you really wanted to know my opinion in just what you buy for, I would give the
book three and a half stars. Besides that, it was a very interesting idea the
author had with this book because I really didn’t expect how they were going to
re-do little red riding hood. There is romance in it and your typical love triangle
that most YA readers adore, not so much for me. There is suspense, mystery,
great characters, not so bad concept of a story and of course that great twist
at the end you just can’t expect. I say if you have seen the movie don’t bother
with the book because they followed it very well but If you have yet to see the
movie go ahead and give the book a try either you will hate it or love it in my
opinion.

It is a dark, mysterious and at the same time has its typical high school drama type of stuff going on and I know what you might be thinking, deal breaker right there right? Well trust me I would have thought the same thing but to be honest, it is very different, very mature. Yes mature, I felt this book was a little more mature than most vampire books in the Young Adult genre, maybe it’s just me. The ending is unbelievable by the way as well, something to look forward to if you are planning to read it. There really isn't anything negative to say about this book. Great beginning for a series.

In that case I am no longer going to continue with the DAC challenge because I don't want to force myself to read something that I am not currently interested in reading only because I don't want to give whatever book I am reading a bad review based on the mood I was in while reading the book. I did get to read FOUR of the twelve books I promised to read and there WILL be reviews for those four. I did have most of those twelve books on my lists already bought and in my bookcase in which case I might read them sometime in the future and there will obviously be reviews. Just because I am pausing the YA reading it does not mean that I no longer like them in any way because I do, those books were the first type of books I read and I still want to continue reading them, in which case I should mention that I am really excited for a couple of YA books that are coming out soon so please know that there will still be YA reviews. I still have plenty of YA reviews that I have to do so this blog will still be mainly YA based for a while.

As for the Stephen King Challenge, I will continue that challenge along with the goodreads challenge.crazysteph12http://www.blogger.com/profile/09777459489499211272noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-267475151644369723.post-88354921540468510572011-06-29T21:17:00.000-07:002011-06-29T21:30:18.659-07:00Delirium (Delirium, #1) by Lauren Oliver
Title: Delirium (Delirium, #1)

Author: Lauren Oliver

Publisher: HarperTeen

Date Published: February 1st 2011

Genre: Young Adult, Dystopia

My Rating:

School was obviously never the same. Deanna’s father never looked at her the same way. Her mother never really defended her the way a mother should. This story demonstrates the cause and effect of an event. To many people, this story would seem like an exaggeration but in my opinion, it is something that needed to be exhibited because there aren’t many books that I’ve read expressing these types of situations and how they can happen to anyone. I just really enjoyed how believable it was. I feel like I really connected with Deanna and I felt sorry for her and the things she had to go through. Knowing that Deanna was in reality a nice and normal girl made things even harder to go through. I don’t believe this book was the best thing out there but it was good enough that it made me a fan. I recommend this book because like many others it has it’s life lessons. It is a good read and it is not a waste of time, I can guarantee you that much.

But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that will weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

This had been a draft review for the longest time. I just couldn't seem to put my thoughts into words. This book was seriously amazing. The concept and characters were great. This story was really engaging and it was really hard to put down. Some ideas and names can be recognized from Greek mythology stories which I didn't know until someone pointed it out to me.

The setting is in an unspecified future after North America was destroyed by its own humanity and what was left of it was divided into 13 districts. One of those districts didn't last long, after they tried to rebel against the Capital, which is the government in charge of all districts. Because of that rebellion and the hopes that the event would not repeat, the Capital creates an annual event where people will be reminded that it isn't a very good idea to even think about trying to overthrow the Capital. Two kids from each district, a boy and a girl, all come together to fight on live television, only one being able to survive. This is where Katniss comes in to the story. Katniss is a 16-year-old girl who lives with her mother and little sister. Katniss becomes involved in the games along with another boy and from there many things begin to occur.

This book is seriously one of my favorites. I even got my mom a Spanish version of The Hunger Games so she could get into reading. My mom was never interested in reading and she said she never would be, until my brother and I made her read this book and I was really surprised when she couldn't put it down! The only bad part is that she keeps bugging me about getting her the second part Catching Fire.

I don't think anyone can hate this book, yes there is a lot of violence but I don't consider it a bad thing because it all meant something. What I loved the most after its symbolism and all the meanings, were all the twists and turns! There was a surprise in every corner, I recommend this book to everyone. Like I said, there isn't anything negative I can say about this book... neither can my mom.

Okay so I will have to admit that I am not a big fan of kids but of course it doesn't mean that I won't have my own some day. Whenever I do have children though I really hope to see them interested in books. Many great things can come with reading. It puts a smile on my face when I see little kids reading. It makes me believe that they are going to grow up and be really smart and go somewhere in life. I am not saying that people who don't read are dumb! but I have never met a smart person who doesn't read once in a while. JUST SAYING.

I read a post where it mentions that now a days in a book store in the kid's section you see a lot of toys, to the point where it seems like just a toy section with just a couple of books surrounding them, kids usually picking out toys instead of a book and parents not doing much about it. However, the other day when I was at the book store, I walk in to the kid's section trying to get ideas on what books would be great for a niece and I see a mother reading to her little girl. The little girl seemed so interested! That is something I want to see everyday.

The reason I am focusing on little kids when it comes to reading is because they are usually more eager to learn about new things. Trying to get a 25 year old (who has believed that books are evil his or her entire life) to read is really hard! Trust me. Maybe reading isn't for everyone, I understand, but there are so many people out there that think books are boring just because they had to forcefully read a book all through high school, I know this because that was me!

My parents never encouraged me to read. Never did I see them pick up a book. My big brother is the one that introduced me to a book and I am really glad he did.

I have decided that any kids in my family are going to start receiving books from me. I am going to try really hard to get them into reading, not force them though because it's obvious that will never work... I remember high school required reading... Eww, never worked for me either.

I just think parents should introduce their children to books. If they like it they like it and if they don't then they don't. Simple as that. Nothing bad can come from a kid enjoying to read.

A man with a faded, well-worn notebook open in his lap. A woman experiencing a morning ritual she doesn't understand. Until he begins to read to her. The Notebook is an achingly tender story about the enduring power of love, a story of miracles that will stay with you forever.

Set amid the austere beauty of coastal North Carolina in 1946, The Notebook begins with the story of Noah Calhoun, a rural Southerner returned home from World War II. Noah, thirty-one, is restoring a plantation home to its former glory, and he is haunted by images of the beautiful girl he met fourteen years earlier, a girl he loved like no other. Unable to find her, yet unwilling to forget the summer they spent together, Noah is content to live with only memories...until she unexpectedly returns to his town to see him once again.

Allie Nelson, twenty-nine, is now engaged to another man, but realizes that the original passion she felt for Noah has not dimmed with the passage of time. Still, the obstacles that once ended their previous relationship remain, and the gulf between their worlds is too vast to ignore. With her impending marriage only weeks away, Allie is forced to confront her hopes and dreams for the future, a future that only she can shape.

Like a puzzle within a puzzle, the story of Noah and Allie is just the beginning. As it unfolds, their tale miraculously becomes something different, with much higher stakes. The result is a deeply moving portrait of love itself, the tender moments and the fundamental changes that affect us all. Shining with a beauty that is rarely found in current literature, The Notebook establishes Nicholas Sparks as a classic storyteller with a unique insight into the only emotion that really matters.

"I am nothing special, of this I am sure. I am a common man with common thoughts and I've led a common life. There are no monuments dedicated to me and my name will soon be forgotten, but I've loved another with all my heart and soul, and to me, this has always been enough."

And so begins one of the most poignant and compelling love stories you will ever read...The Notebook

As unrealistic as this book might seem, with the overflow of love just like you would read of in many fictional stories, it is based on a couple's true love story. Sparks wanted to write this book to show people that unconditional love does exist. Now if you don't believe that this is a true story then it will seem like another boy meets girl or girl meets boy, parents separate them kind of story.

Even though this story was written mostly in Noah's point of view, you get both main character's points of view which is not a usual thing to see. It is nice to know what Allie is feeling along with Noah. Both characters, Allie and Noah, are dying to have each other again and it makes you anxious and in my case, annoyed, reading the repetition of how much they love each other and nothing being done about it. At times the story seemed a little to slow for me, I don't need to know many of the things they talk about. This story has a massive amount of detail. As much as I love detail, this came to be a little too much for me.

Surprisingly the chapter I really enjoyed because I know that if I hadn't watched the movie then I would have been a lot more surprised was "An Unexpected Visitor". Getting closer to the end I did get a little teary eyed just like in all of Spark's books I've read.

This brings me to mentioning the movie because I can't help but compare them. For the first time ever I have to admit that the movie was way better. The movie seemed to take me to more places than the book did. If you watched the movie and read the book you can easily distinguish the differences. "The summer" which they spend together was only a memory in the book but the movie really brought it to life, it gave us a lot more detail on that summer. Overall I feel I connected a lot more with the movie than the book.

It is a lovely story and I can't say otherwise.
This was before milk carton photos and public service announcements, she tells us; back in 1973, when Susie mysteriously disappeared, people still believed these things didn't happen. In the sweet, untroubled voice of a precocious teenage girl, Susie relates the awful events of her death and her own adjustment to the strange new place she finds herself. It looks a lot like her school playground, with the good kind of swing sets. With love, longing, and a growing understanding, Susie watches her family as they cope with their grief, her father embarks on a search for the killer, her sister undertakes a feat of amazing daring, her little brother builds a fort in her honor and begin the difficult process of healing. In the hands of a brilliant novelist, this story of seemingly unbearable tragedy is transformed into a suspenseful and touching story about family, memory, love, heaven, and living.

A 14-year-old girl, Susie Salmon is raped and murdered. You would think this book would be the mystery of how it happened or who it was, but it's not the way it's written. Susie Salmon is in "heaven" or like in throughout most of the story "In between", Earth and heaven, because she is not yet ready to go on. Susie is the narrator of the story which makes things interesting because you tag along with her while she observes her family, from above, trying to cope. Susie's father is obsessed with what happened, her mother is trying to forget about the occurrence in a total different way, Susie's sister is trying to go on with her life but she knows it's impossible, she needs to find out who the murderer is. Susie's little brother is having a hard time understanding the meaning of death. Most of the story is about what her loved ones have to go through after she is murdered. It is a horrific story but yet it's hard to put down. You see everyone on Earth trying to figure out who the murderer is even though we, the readers, already know.

I don't want to leave out some other interesting characters...
Len Fenerman: The detective trying to solve Susie's case but ends up doing more than investigating the case.
Ray Singh: Susie's crush who is, believe it or not, also having a hard time coping.
Ruth Connors: One of my favorite characters in this story. Ruth is a girl that Susie went to school with, they were never friends but when Susie's spirit touches her while leaving Earth, Ruth becomes fascinated with Susie even though she barely knew her. Ray and Ruth become close friends having something so special in common, Susie.
I should mention Susie's best friend from Earth, Clarissa, and her best friend from heaven, Holly, but they don't make a great impact.

This book is great. I recommend it to everyone, it is indeed a must read. The story can be a bit disturbing at times but I like when authors don't hold anything back. Don't be fooled by the movie because it does not do it any justice.crazysteph12http://www.blogger.com/profile/09777459489499211272noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-267475151644369723.post-51301778372455056872010-12-05T22:08:00.000-08:002011-05-22T15:59:32.015-07:00Review: Flawless by Sara ShepardTitle: Flawless (Pretty Little Liars #2)
I love the way Sara Shepard makes it seem like A is talking directly at you. I love the way it ended, not exactly the end of the story but literally the end once it goes through "About the author" then there is a "What is next..." and suddenly A is there telling you it isn't over and giving you hints of what is next to come, it is creepy in a way that I can't help but wanting more of A. At certain points I felt the story wasn't getting anywhere but then I was sucked into it all over again.

Spencer: She is the all A's, everything should be perfect girl and she seems to have a bit of trouble staying away from her sister's boyfriends. I don't dislike her for it though, I don't necessarily believe it's her fault and I have to admit I really dislike her sister.

Hanna: She does some "not so pretty" things to stay fabulous or should i say flawless. I understand why she does the things she does, both her parents have trouble communicating with their daughter. She also has an issue with her father who is getting married again. Hanna finally gets to see her father again after a couple of years but is having some trouble getting his full attention.

Aria: Her family is falling apart. Aria is now into another boy. In my opinion, Aria should stay away from her friend's ex-boyfriends (yes i said it) and should go back with her English teacher, that was my favorite part of the story and now its is gone... at least for now.

Emily: Sweet, innocent Emily can't stop thinking about her friend Maya, more like girls in general. Emily is also getting involved with who is believed to be dangerous and most likely Allison's murderer. I believe Emily should follow her heart and for her new guy "friend", she should give him a chance or maybe she should even... run?

I do feel sorry for Spencer, Hanna, Aria and Emily but i can't help myself from loving the chaos they are in. They are a complete train wreck and I'M LOVIN' IT!
